Jin Xu

Acting Superintendent 

Dr. Jin Xu is no stranger to the New York Military Academy, having served previously as the Acting Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer of NYMA in 2016. From 2016 to 2019 he served on its Board of Trustees, as treasurer and secretary.  Having earned his PhD in finance from the University of Texas, Dr. Xu brings his years of experience as an entrepreneur and a strong commitment to the New York Military Academy’s future.

Christine Coalwell McDonald

Dean of Academics

Christine Coalwell McDonald has taught for more than fifteen years at private schools in New York and New Jersey. She has a Master of Arts (M.A.L.A.) in Liberal Education from Saint John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland and a Bachelor of Arts iin International Relations from American University in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. McDonald was the Internal Coordinator for Middle States Association School Accreditation and Chair of the History and Social Studies Departments at the Storm King School. At Tuxedo Park School she served as History Department Coordinator and as the coach of the school’s academic teams, National Academic Quiz Tournaments, National History Bee & Bowl, and Model United Nations.

Christine is also a former Research Associate at Monticello’s Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies and has published several articles and essays on Jefferson, his family, and education in the early republic.

Christine and her husband Robert  are also the proud parents of Jefferson McDonald NYMA class of ’24 and Grace McDonald NYMA class of ’26

LTC (ret.) Michael D. Hauser

 Commandant of Cadets

A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, LTC Michael D. Hauser had previously served in the U.S. Army before becoming an officer.  He later earned a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Hawai’i, a Master of Adult & Higher Education from the University of Oklahoma, and a Master of Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis joint with Fudan University in Shanghai, China.  Over his career he has served in over thirty nations and for U.S. Embassies.  His background includes experience teaching and training, curriculum development, and education administration in military and diplomatic education and training programs.  

John Mahon

Director of Admissions

John Mahon earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh New York and his Master of Science degree in Management with a concentration in Human Computer Interaction from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He worked at IBM in Armonk, New York for twenty years in Data Analytics. Mr. Mahon worked at Mount Saint Mary College before joining NYMA for eight years in Enrollment and was the Dean of Admissions for the last five years. He is married to his wife of 28 years, Clauida and they have two sons John Patrick and Luke Christian

Bobby Rahn

Athletic Coordinator

Bobby Rahn came to NYMA from John S. Burke Catholic High School where he taught, was Dean of Discipline, and coached their basketball team to a New York State Championship. He is passionate about helping students reach their potential through participation in athletics. Mr. Rahn excels at helping student-athletes improve their academic record by creating a supportive environment both on and off the court. Additionally, he has extensive experience at finding his student-athletes excellent opportunities at the collegiate and even professional levels. Here at NYMA, Mr. Rahn coaches, teaches health and wellness classes, and also organizes his very popular basketball camps and tournaments. It is his goal to lead the entire athletic program at the Academy into a new period of growth and achievement. So far he is right on track. In his first season as head basketball coach, Mr. Rahn led the Knights to a Hudson Valley Athletic League Championship and then to the school’s first ever NEPSAC Championship. He was also named NEPSAC Coach of the Year.

Jay David

Coordinator of Development and Alumni Affairs

Jay David is a NYMA Alumnus, Class of ’97

 

Jay David is a Queens, NY native. He is the loving father to a joyful 12-year-old girl named Julianna. Jay has an extensive amount of experience within the world of youth sports, academics, community service and mentorship.  His background includes possessing a Bachelors Degree in Biology. He is currently Executive Director of the NY Jayhawks, a mentorship program based out of Queens, NY which is sponsored by Adidas that has utilized basketball as a vehicle to molding young boys into productive young men for the past 10 years.  As a result, his program has ultimately aided in providing roughly 150 million dollars in financial aid over the course of its existence.

 

 Jay is the Founder & President of the The Gateway Initiative which works with preparatory, private & parochial  schools with their development. The Gateway also serves domestic as well as international students in identifying the best academic and athletic fit for their families. He also has experience working with national camp powerhouse “The Hoop Group”, the NBA scout school and has been an assistant coach for “national powerhouse” Long Island Lutheran for the past 8 years.  His passion for giving back to the community has led to his name becoming a positive household commodity throughout the tri-state area. As mentorship continues to adjust to today’s “new norms”, Jay plans to remain diligent in continuing to lend a helping hand in all of his future endeavors.

Nick Mishkovski

Director of Facilities

Nick Mishkovski holds a master’s degree in History and EPA Universal Certification from The National Center for Construction Education and Research. He joined NYMA in December of 2015 after working at the United States Military Academy and TF Cornerstone in New York City. Mr. Mishkovski also brings more than 15 years of experience in construction. His goal is to bring the Academy’s facilities back to their full potential and glory while maintaining the safety and security of NYMA’s cadets and employees

Richard Thorn

Director of Dining Facilities

Richard Thorn is a culinary professional with over 30 years of experience in all aspects of food service. He is an alumnus of Paul Smith’s College (A.A.S. Culinary Arts) and has served in the U.S. Navy’s Submarine Service (MS2-SS). After his time in the Navy, Mr. Thorn became a certified Dietary Manager and worked in contract food service. He was assigned to a variety of locations throughout the region including medical, corporate, recreational and educational facilities. Mr. Thorn returned to NYMA in 2017. He was previously the Food Service Director here from 2013-2015.
