Summer Leadership Program 2019

We have been getting a lot of inquiries from prospective applicants for this year’s Summer Leadership Program at NYMA. The three 2-week sessions will be offered this summer for children who are 11 and above. The Summer Leadership Program features leadership lessons, STEAM classes, as well as hands-on outdoor survival courses.

Participants also get to practice Drill & Ceremony and a variety of sports including rifle training. In addition to the enriched daily activities, the program provides participants with exclusive experiences such as touring the West Point campus and experiencing their Leadership Reaction Course.

Weekend trips to New York City (at additional coast) and to local attractions are always a favorite according to students who attended past programs. You can check out last year’s summer blog at nymasummerblog.wordpress.com/ to get a taste of all that the program offers.

An early bird discount is available to students applying before April 1st. For more detailed information about the program, please visit nyma.org/programs/summer-leadership-program/. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Bonnie Dong, Summer Program Coordinator, at bdong@nyma.org.

Summer Session III Kicks Off

This past Sunday our third session of our Summer Leadership Program began. After dinner some campers chose to unpack and settle down while others decided to play some basketball. Yesterday everyone had a very busy first day full of activities.

The day started with orientation and drill and was followed by a leadership class, survival course, and sports. After a very delicious BBQ dinner, the campers enjoyed a special presentation by LTC Jones from the U.S. Military Academy.

Summer Session II Begins

Our Summer Leadership Program Session II got officially under way this week.  On Sunday campers enjoyed their first meal together and then took part in an ice-breaker activity called speed-friending.

Monday was the first full day of camp and it started off with a breakfast formation followed by orientation, a campus tour, drill and ceremonies, leadership and robotics lessons, sports, and a special leadership presentation by LTC Jones from the U.S. Military Academy.

Tuesday all of our participants spent the day at West Point. The day began with a three-hour Leader Reaction Course. On the course each obstacle presented a unique physical and mental challenge that required squads to plan and execute under a time limit. After having lunch onsite, our students had a two-hour campus tour provided by professional West Point tour guides.

Summer Program in Session

The first session of our Summer Leadership Program has begun! Cadets arrived with their families this past Sunday and have already settled in. They were greeted by our staff and spent some time meeting each other and moving into their new rooms.

Yesterday morning the cadets were addressed by the Superintendent who went over the schedule for the week. Despite the brutally hot weather, we have successfully completed all morning and afternoon activities so far. Yesterday evening the participants heard a special leadership presentation by LTC (R) Dave Jones from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
