New York Military Academy (NYMA) is a college preparatory school for day and boarding students in grades 6 through 12. We offer a rigorous curriculum for students who actively seek to be Set Apart for Excellence in a uniquely structured program that enables them to enter college inspired, engaged, and ready for the future.
Established in 1889, New York Military Academy is dedicated to developing young leaders for success and fulfillment in college and in life. Utilizing the military model for leadership development and a rigorous curriculum grounded by a demand for competence in the classical disciplines, New York Military Academy graduates are prepared for an extraordinary life.
A great source of pride at New York Military Academy is our colorful, vibrant alumni body, men and women who are actively involved in the preservation and further development of the school to which so many credit their success. Notable alumni include Donald Trump, 45th President of the United States, Robert Benmosche, former president and CEO of AIG, Stephen Sondheim, Composer, and Bob Stiller, the wildly successful founder of Green Mountain Coffee.
New York Military’s mission statement is to develop our cadets in mind, body, and character, prepare them for further education and enable them to become effective leaders and responsible citizens.
Inherent in this mission are our four pillars:
- Academics—the International Learner
Our challenging 21st century curriculum is delivered in small classes designed to provide cadets with the kind of personalized attention that produces confident, college-ready learners who are self-directing, self-motivated and poised for success.
- Athletics—Wellness and Fair Play
Physical fitness dovetails with developing a cadet’s mind, so all cadets participate in sports throughout the school year. NYMA offers nearly twenty different sports teams including drill and rifle team.
- Character—Doing the Right Thing
Developing good citizens requires cultivating the essential traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring and fairness. NYMA’s honor code, “A cadet will not lie, cheat, or steal, or tolerate those who do,” reinforces those vital character lessons every day.
- Leadership—Real Life Leadership Lab
Developing future leaders is one of the most unique aspects of the NYMA mission. As cadets move up in rank within the Corps of Cadets, they become more and more responsible for motivating, supervising and instructing their peers. NYMA cadets pursue a comprehensive curriculum alongside a structured leadership and life-skills focused military program, guided by the school’s long affiliation with the United States Army JROTC Program. Although most NYMA graduates do not choose to serve in the military after graduation, their NYMA training truly sets them apart from the competition in terms of readiness for college.
Leadership Summer Programs
For Summer 2017, NYMA will be offering three sessions of 15-day leadership summer programs for children ages 9 – 15 both from the United States and internationally.
