A Message from the Director of Athletics
New York Military Academy competes in the Hudson Valley Athletic League
with other day and boarding schools such as Storm King, Oakwood Friends,
Wooster, Chase, South Kent , Christian Heritage, Poughkeepsie Day, Forman,
Marvelwood, Watkinson, Harvey and Darrow.
The school uses one football field; two soccer
fields; one baseball field; one softball field; one lacrosse field; two
swimming pools; one gym with basketball, wrestling and weight room; and eight
tennis courts. Students and faculty use all of the facilities during free
time.
At New York Military Academy, all students must compete in athletics
for all three seasons. Whether they are learning the basics of fencing or karate, or
have been excelling in football or basketball, they are part of the athletic
tradition. We offer 18 interscholastic sports with 22 teams, plus some
recreational activities. Depending upon the student's experience, each can
compete on the varsity, junior varsity or junior high level.
NYMA has always valued the important role
athletics plays in the development of each student. While some schools have
eliminated or watered down their athletics requirements over the years, we believe that participation in sports teaches lessons that can applied to life: discipline, sacrifice, teamwork and friendships that
will last a lifetime.
