Admissions Overview
Established in 1889, New York Military Academy’s
motto of Toujours Prêt (Always Ready) reflects the long-standing mission of the
school to prepare students for the challenges of the future by making them
informed citizens. With that in mind,
the students graduating from New York Military Academy embody certain definable
and affirmative characteristics. Our
curriculum develops students in mind, body, and spirit, while traditional
course work with electives is designed to encourage exploration and prepares
students for their collegiate future.
Every student participates in a rigorous college
preparatory curriculum and interscholastic athletic program. The academy offers varsity, junior varsity,
and modified athletic teams that compete in sports, such as soccer, football,
fencing, basketball, swimming, softball, wrestling, baseball, tennis, golf,
lacrosse, just to name a few. Weekend
outings, parades, field trips, rifle team, band, drill team, and horsemanship
programs are a few of the additional activities that round out cadet life at
the academy.
The military organizational structure and tradition
combined with confidence and self-discipline enhance the students’ achievements
in and out of the classroom. The Junior
Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) teaches accountability and
responsibility while developing character and leadership skills. It is these skills that define our students
as successful citizens, capable of making significant contributions to their
communities and country. The
prestigious and highest designation awarded by the Department of the Army,
Honor Unit with Distinction, allows New York Military Academy to nominate
qualified seniors to the United States Service Academies.
The Admissions Department hosts open house events
throughout the year to introduce prospective families to the school, staff, and
faculty, as well as tour with a cadet.
Represented by students from twelve
states and fourteen countries in 2009-2010,
our overall achievement is measured by the 100% success rate of
graduating seniors in gaining admissions to the nations’ leading colleges and
universities.
