Eduardo deVeer '60

Eduardo deVeer, a resident of Aruba, came to New York Military Academy in 1956. Assigned to C Company, he rose from private in his freshman year to Battalion Captain Adjutant as a senior. His role in this leadership position was very important as it was his duty each day at first mess to announce the orders of the day. Very involved as a student-athlete, Mr. deVeer tried his hand at new cadet wrestling and varsity soccer. He excelled in two sports: swimming and tennis. As a busy, well-rounded cadet, Mr. deVeer was on a number of committees and clubs including the Newman Club, Special Drill Platoon, and the junior and senior Ring Hop committees. He was not just a leader and athlete; he was a recognized scholar receiving the proficient cadet award for three years running.

After his graduation from NYMA, Mr. deVeer attended the University of Miami, graduating in 1964 with a degree in business administration with a specialty in finance. He has also been a member of the NYMA Board of Trustees.

Aruba is fortunate to have such a distinguished citizen who has extensive business holdings on the island. He is a Paul Harris Fellow Rotary International, a Knight in the Order of Debnmark, a Knight in the Order of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, was Man of the Year in 1986 and received the Gold Award in 1987.
