Mission

The mission of Booth Library is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information by supporting the school's curriculum with access to current, adequate and appropriate information resources.

 Policies

1. General Rules

   A quiet, studious atmosphere is expected in the library.

   No food or drink is permitted in the library.

   Cadets may not have or use cell phones in the library.

   Cadets may use iPods/CD players with librarian permission only.

   Classroom uniform is required at all times.

   Passes are required during classes.

   During ESP, cadets using the library are expected to do assigned academic work.

   Observe all posted rules when using the Internet computers.

2. Computer Use

   All computer use must comply with New York Military Academy's computer Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).

   First priority for Internet use is academic research.

   Chat rooms, instant messaging, games, movies and videos are not permitted on library computers.

   No e-mail or non-academic use of the Internet is permitted during evening study period.

   Desktop computers are available.

   Cadets who have not had a turn on the Internet on any given day have priority over those who have already been on.

   Limit printing to only what is truly needed. Use the print preview feature before printing from the Internet. An internet page may be several pages long on the printer. Do not print classroom quantities on the library printers. Color printing is allowed but must be released by the librarian or a faculty member.

   Cadets may not use or install any personal programs on library computers.

   The library staff reserves the right to monitor all student use of computers in the library including websites visited.

3. Circulation

   The loan period for library books is 21 days. Items can be renewed for an additional 21 days unless being recalled for use by another borrower.

   Cadets with overdue books cannot check out additional items until the overdue books are returned.

   Borrowers are responsible for all library materials checked out to them.

   There is a fine for overdue books.

   Borrowers who lose library materials or return them damaged beyond repair will be charged the replacement cost of the book, any accrued overdue fines and a processing fee of $5.00.

Electronic & Online Resources

Several academic full-text online databases are available on the library's Website as well as periodicals, newspapers and the New York State Library's NOVEL, a virtual library of subject specific reference resources. These resources as well as the library home page can be accessed 24 hours a day.

Booth Library, named in memory of Fred Booth, loyal friend and trustee of New York Military Academy from 1910-1934, houses 14,000 print and non-print resources, and subscribes to 25 magazines and newspapers with extensive files of back issues to 1959 in hard copy and microform. Library computer resources include 24 networked computers located in the main library area and in the adjacent Brunetti Computer Lab. Two laser printers and a scanner are also available. Microsoft Office is installed on all computers.

The library's online catalog provides easy access to the books and other materials in our collection. The catalog can be searched from terminals in the library or from any computer connected to the Internet.

Staff & Hours

The Booth Library staff consists of a full time library media specialist.
The library is open before and after school as well as throughout the academic day when many faculty schedule classes for research and projects. Evening study hours are available Monday through Thursday and Sunday for all of our students.
