Jonathan Gastel, Ph.D.
Dean of Academics
Dr. Gastel, who earned his B.A. from Yale University and Ph.D from Johns Hopkins University, brings to the New York Military Academy a strong desire to propel students to higher standards for academics, leadership, and character. Before joining NYMA, he taught various subjects in both public and private schools locally and internationally, including Stuyvesant High School in New York City. He also created and led several successful project-based instructional programs and was Supervisor of Secondary Science at Pelham, NY.
Director of Admissions
Mr. Dolan has put forward 25 years of experience working in an educational environment, 21 years with the New York Police Department and 27 years in the US Army and Army Reserve. He has a strong ability to maintain the continuing flow of quality applicants and recognize core trends effectively. Mr. Dolan’s strength in admissions and marketing educational curriculum will be a huge asset to NYMA. He is excited about this opportunity to help bring NYMA back to the prestigious school it once was.
Director of Dining Facilities
Chef Laura Hoffenberg has been a part of the New York Military Academy community for over fifteen years. An alumni of The Culinary Institute of America, she believes health, well being and the enjoyment of food are important part of academic and personal success.
Her goal is the continuous growth and improvement of the academy’s dining facility for it’s student cadets, community of educators, the Alumni, and the many distinguished guests and visitors. And through diversity, community, culinary consciousness, insure that the New York Military Academy Dining Hall is an extension of the learning environment as well as a home away from home.
Master Sergeant Bailey arrived at NYMA in May of 1998. He provided TAC support until joining the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps in 2000. As an Army Instructor, he has continued to motivate young people to be better citizens. At the core of his instruction is leadership, character and academic excellence.
Director of College Counseling and Assistant Dean
Maria Reeves joined the NYMA staff in August of 2006. Majoring in Psychology, she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo, and her Master of Arts Degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is specifically responsible for international students entering the country, student scheduling, standardized testing and the college application process. Her greatest work is helping students navigate their way through high school and ultimately finding that perfect college fit.
Patricia Zamfino, R.N.
Health Services Manager and Head Nurse
Ms. Zamfino has been a nurse for twelve years and has spent the majority of her career working in the field she loves, Pediatrics. Ms. Zamfino came to NYMA after serving as a school nurse in the Cornwall Central School District for six years. When not looking after the health and wellness of our Cadets she is busy keeping up with her four young children.
Director of Facilities
Nick Mishkovski holds a Master’s Degree in History and EPA Universal Certification from The National Center for Construction Education and Research. He joined NYMA in December of 2015 after working in West Point Military Academy and TF Cornerstone in NYC and brings more than 15 years of experience in construction. Mr. Mishkovski believes in the greatness of NYMA and his goal is to bring the academy’s facilities to their full potential and glory, while maintaining the safety and security of NYMA’s cadets and employees.
